Detroit School Closures Coming Up

schoolkids.pngThe Detroit Public School district is moving into Phase IV of its Realignment Strategy this month.  The “realignment” is an attempt to recoup cash for the district caused by ever declining enrollment and essentially involves two things: closing approximately 50 facilities and busing the remaining students to other schools within the district.

Things are up in the air right now because DPS has yet to hold public meetings to get feedback from community stakeholders, but final approval of the plan by the board is scheduled for the last week of February.  Hopefully then we’ll know a bit more about how many of our kids are going to be impacted.   See the Detroit Free Press, the DPS website, and the South End (WSU Student Newspaper) for more info.

We’re Back

Our schedule is back on track! We’ll be in Detroit at CDC this Saturday, as well as Jan 27, Feb 10, and Feb 24. Drop us a comment if you want more info!
